This year has hit off with the lot, many DJ’s, producers and other artists want to come down under! This March, house and disco authority Greg Wilson is set to return to our clubs. The tour kicks off at new Sydney venue The Soda Factory (it’s located at 16 Wentworth Ave, Surry Hills, which you will remember as the former Tone site), before rolling through Brisbane, Perth and Melbourne. The tour is presented by Richard Maher Agency and The Pool Agency.
Wilson’s résumé as a DJ stretches back to Manchester’s now legendary Hacienda club, and he continues to chronicle all corners of electronic music (check out his mix of ‘80s floor-fillers below). In 2012, inthemix asked the DJ about his large catalogue of edits. “I suppose one of my catch phrases is: ‘To know the future you must first know the past’,” he said. “So I’m utilizing the music that I played in the ‘70s and ‘80s but doing re-edits; re-packaging for a new generation. The age group of people that would come to my gigs is getting younger year on year. It’s important to find out the true language.”
At the tail-end of last summer, Wilson toured Australia, playing the AGWA Yacht Club cruise on Sydney Harbour, club dates in Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane, and finally the replacement party for a washed-out Playground Weekender. Soon after the tour, the DJ wrote an illuminating blog post for his website that you can (and should) read in full.
